Transporting Harvey

The Harvey Dent transportation scene was ridiculous.  How does an 18-wheeler NOT jack knife or have its tires ripped to shreds while changing lanes, crashing into cars, and hitting walls at high speeds?  How does The Joker manage to fire an RPG at a police vehicle and not manage to demolish it on the first hit?  It took TWO shots to take out the police car.  Yet it took ONE RPG shot to completely wreck the Tumbler (“Bat Tank”, er “Bat Mobile”).

Maybe the problem with the Tumbler was the same problem with the bat suit?  Maybe in Batman 3 (or 6?), there will be a scene of Bruce asking Lucious if he can have a Tumbler that can withstand missiles and Lucious will say “Yes, I have just the thing, except it will not be able to withstand a kick from a small child or cat claws.”

Secondly, it was known that transporting Harvey would lure out The Joker and it was known (Harvey even alliterated to this knowledge) that Batman would show up to save his ass.  They seemed awfully unprepared when things went ACCORDING TO PLAN.  The Joker shows up and it’s like chaos.  Not to mention the horrible “comic relief” from the 2nd driver of the van.

Now that I think of it, and all of Nolan’s films, he may have a good eye for visual impact or weaving complex stories (I actually do love “The Prestige” and “Batman Begins”), he clearly doesn’t understand humor or timing of humor in a movie.  Poorly timed, poorly executed.

  1. you didn’t like Memento? :O

I wish I could make a better comment, but to remember what happens in that scene I’d have to see the movie again, and I don’t really want to :P

  2. Things didnt go according to plan because if you remember they had to change their route to another street which was part of the joker’s plan “lower 5th well be like turkeys on thanksgiving there.” you like to omit parts of the movie that disprove your points.

  4. “you didn’t like Memento? :O”

I never caught it on screen, only on cable, and I was too tired at the time when it came on to follow everything (plus I missed the first 10 or so minutes). Seemed OK, I’ll set my DVR to record it if it comes on again.

That’s just plain retarded. They knew to expect an ambush but didn’t prepare to change their route. That’s like driving a tank through a farm and not expecting to hit some cows.

  6. “Harvey even *alluded* to this knowledge.” Unless he literally spoke with words beginning with the same letter, I don’t remember. :)

And yeah, the chase sequence was far too complicated and overwrought.

‘Lucious will say “Yes, I have just the thing, except it will not be able to withstand a kick from a small child or cat claws.””

Hehe. Of course, they’ll bring in Baby Doll and Catwoman for the villians during that Battank “upgrade.”

  7. “Unless he literally spoke with words beginning with the same letter, I don’t remember. :)

When they were prepping him for transportation from the first location, there’s a short verbal exchange where he is of the belief that Batman will do his part and help nab The Joker. I don’t recall the exact words, but that’s the gist and was pretty clear.

  8. Right, but you say he “alliterated.” Alliteration is using the same letter in multiple words in a row.

From dictionary.com: “In “Round and round the rugged rock the ragged rascal ran,” the “r” alliterates.”

You mean he “alluded.” “to refer casually or indirectly; make an allusion. Hint, suggest.”

  9. I mis-typed, I intended to mean alluded.

  10. It wasn’t the RPG that killed the Tumbler. It was the violent flipping after it jumped. The RPG damaged it’s structural integrity enough for violent flipping of that kind to cause the Tumbler to malfunction. Flipping like that will rip a vehicle up, like in Casino Royale.

As for the cop car: RPG’s, in reality, aren’t as powerful as most action movies make it out to be.

Here are some links displaying the damage they inflict.

  11. These guys were not poorly prepared…… things just didn’t go according to plan.

They had probably thought that Bat in his batmobile would be sufficent to take care of an attack from the joker……. if only he had come on the scene a little earlier he could easily have stopped the joker and gang b4 they fired the missiles which he had to come in the way of. It was just beacause of this delay in his arrival (maybe it was because bat hadn’t thought about the action moving into lower fifth and he was taking time to manouevre thru the traffic down there).

Its funny how you guys never get back at (or acknowledge your mistakes) when someone like Rob (previous post) or jimmyboy etc completely shred your points of critique. I remember one such poor attempt at getting back by tdksucks where he says that he doesnt care if his factual points are proved to be wrong (or something to that effect…) when all the other articles are even worse (harvey dent is homo with bruce in some scene, superman+batman, and other such trash).
Even funnier is th roger fella… he keeps impling that the factual stuff isn’t worth arguing over as the film lacks any motive, value, heart, etc (which it definitely does, wanna debate????) nd refuses to educate us about his reasons for felling thus.

  12. You just said it took 2 hits with the RPG to take out a cop car. However, if you noticed, he shot *2* separate cop cars, each being completely obliterated in one well-aimed shot.

  13. It only took one missle to destroy each cop car.

    There were two cop cars.
